The scarecrows are taking over the farm this fall — watch out for their mischievous ways! Take a hayride to the pumpkin patch and get lost in the six-acre corn maze, then try a hand-dipped caramel apple or some popcorn before heading over to the play area or visiting the farm’s animals. Check out the 10-acre corn maze featuring a “Vote 08” theme, then try your hand at Corn Hole or just enjoy a snack. The maze is open Fri and Sat, 12 - 10 p.m.; and Sun, 12 - 5 p.m. Admission is $7, ages 13 and older; $5, ages 6 - 12; and free for ages 5 and younger with a paying adult.

One of the largest corn mazes in the country, this one features 23-acres of navigational puzzles, but you can get help with a passport. Follow up your trek through the corn by hanging out at the Kiddie Corner, or ride the trolley to the pumpkin patch to pick out your own pumpkin. All aboard for this train ride through Warren County with a stop at Schappacher Farm to pet some friendly animals, select a pumpkin and test your navigational skills through a corn maze. The two-and-a-half hour train ride leaves weekends in Oct. at 10 a.m. and 1 and 4 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for children ages 2 through 12, and free for infants 1 and younger.

Visit a pumpkin patch and explore pumpkins and their  squash cousins on October 3, 10, 17, and 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Pumpkin Patch Package costs $5 and includes admission to the Playbarn, a snack and a wagon ride to the pumpkin patch where you can select your own pumpkin to take home.

Pumpkin Patch Tours at Sunrock Farm

These two-hour guided tours include milking a goat, gathering eggs, holding a baby chick, visiting with the farm’s horses and cows and a hayride to a pumpkin patch to pick a pumpkin. Tours take place weekdays in Oct. from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. - noon, 1 - 3 p.m. or 4 - 6 p.m. Cost is $9 per person; children under 1 are free and pumpkins range from $1 - $10. Get lost in eight acres of a corn maze that’s designed in a patriotic way, watch Tom’s amazing Punkin’ Chunkin’ Cannon, get up-close-and-personal with farm animals and visit a straw bale maze and try to exit without ever making a left turn. General admission is $7, and children 5 and under are admitted free with a paying adult. Hours are 1 - 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 - 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Ages 12 and older can take a super-scary walk through Junction Nightmare beginning at 7 p.m. on Thu - Sun.  Admission is $15, or get a fast-pass for $25. A less scary, kid-friendly walk is open for little ones from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Mon - Sat, and 12 - 5 p.m. on Sun. Admission is $8.

Kids can trick-or-treat at the Zoo and pick up delicious treats, take part in a Gorilla Pumpkin Hunt, a Snow Monkey Pumpkin Hide & Seek, an Elephant Pumpkin Smash and a Polar Bear Pumpkin Bob. There will also be a Giant Pumpkin Carving Demonstration, a spooktacular Train Ride and a Scare-ousel. New this year is a Theater of Illusion in which kids can witness tricks of the mind, and be sure to check out the 4-D Theatre featuring the Haunted Lighthouse. The unlucky ghosts of Pirate Cove are searching for their long-lost treasure. This year’s exhibit will feature underwater sword fighting and pumpkin-carving shows.  Up to six kids in costume (ages 12 and younger) get in for $5 with each full-price adult admission.
